Chicago Auto Show 2016

6:24 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I got super excited when I received information on the Chicago Auto Show 2016.  The Chicago auto is one of those must attend events.  People come from all over the world to see and set behind the wheel of the latest cars that the auto industry has to offer.  I attended the Chicago Auto show in 2015 with thefatgirloffashion.com for the first time it was amazing.  I posted and tweeted a ton of pictures and video from my time at the show.  I'm proud to say thefatgirloffashion.com has been invited back.     I'll be using all my social media outlets to deliver all things Chicago Auto show related.  So be sure to follow on Facebook,  Twitter, Snapchat, Periscope using @fatgirl_fashion and of course Instagram using @thefatgirloffashion to see the Chicago Auto Showcase footage.

Below are some of the pictures are from 2015.

The Chicago Auto Show has an all-new website that has launched.  The accompanying smartphone app will go live in January*.  They are designed to enhance the attendee experience and bring the nation’s largest auto show to life across the globe. The 2016 version of ChicagoAutoShow.com will feature a seamless social media integration, historical videos and bigger, bolder image galleries.According to leading show marking  eshots, auto shows nationwide can better connect attendees with exhibitors. In fact, eshots estimates that as many as 100,000 leads are lost at a major show like Chicago because consumers are unwilling or afraid to interact with exhibitors. The Chicago Auto Show hoping to rectify that situation.

Highlighting its extremely active social media channels, the show’s website features Facebook and Twitter conversations on nearly every page. In addition, the site now hosts a social media wall that’s constantly updated with the latest conversations across all social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Vine and Pinterest. The show’s listing of vehicles on display, photo galleries and videos are designed to take advantage of today’s large, touch-screen monitors while still being responsive enough to remain fully functional on compact mobile devices.

In 2016, the show will also be offering a comprehensive beacon messaging program that will allow showgoers to seamlessly interact with exhibitors in an innovative and exciting way. After a successful pilot program last year, the Chicago Auto Show will be rolling out an attendee beacon and messaging platform to all exhibitors. Partnering with American Eagle, Chicago Auto Show app developer, and Footmarks, a mobile proximity marketing solution, the show will place Bluetooth Low-Energy beacons across the show floor. The beacons will collect footfall traffic information (including anonymous proximity data, dwell time, return rate and path information) and message attendees.  Taking advantage of its popular official smartphone app, the Chicago Auto Show will allow exhibitors to message attendees as they consume the show, in particular, when they spend time inside and around key vehicles. For example, BMW can place a beacon inside its new 7-Series that will send an electronic message to attendees, asking them if they would like more information or want to register for a test drive at a local BMW dealer.

“It’s only logical that we use these two technologies to enhance the experience for people at the show and to add value for our exhibitors.”  said 2016 ChicagoShow Chairman Colin Wickstrom.

Tickets for the 2016 Chicago Auto Chicago are available now with prices ranging from $7 to $12 with entrance for children 6 and under being free.  For more information on the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, please visit www.chicagoautoshow.com.

Awww Truck It! | Piko Food Truck | Food Review

About Piko Food Truck

I ran into the Piko food truck outside my job in downtown Chicago.  I'm always opening to trying new food place and food trucks are becoming more common in Chicago.  Piko says that they offer modern asian street food.  Piko also says besides the Asian flavors and our unique vessels, what really sets them apart are their homemade marinades and signature sauces. Marinades made from family recipes while their sauces are created to compliment each vessel. The flavors from these sauces and marinades are the heart and soul of their food.

The menu was created by combining three generations of family recipes and a passion for street food.  With an objective is to serve people delicious food in a timely manner.   A reat deal of care and passion go into each dish that is served out of their window.  The ribeye and chicken are marinated over night while our pork belly is slowly simmered for hours before service.  Each dish is topped with homemade sauces which are specifically created to enhance the overall flavor.

Time To Eat

Ordering is as easy as 1, 2, EAT!

1) Pick your protein.
You have the choice of Lemongrass chicken, Chinese 5 spice pork belly,  bulgogi ribeye and teriyaki tofu.

2) Pick how you want it served.
Your options are taco, bao, slider or bowl.

If you just can't pick you can choose the sampler.  They'll also make your food spicy if you ask.

My Thoughts

I selected the Chinese 5 spice pork belly bowel.  The bowl comes with the choose of white or brown rice.  I opted for the brown rice.  It's also comes with sautéed carrots,  zucchini, bean sprouts, edamame and Piko's own sauce.  I also got the fried egg on top which is extra but is so worth it.  My food was fresh.  The Chinese 5 spice pork belly had a ton of flavor.  The veggies were tasty on their own.  The rice was prefect.
The service was amazing.  The young lady working the window nice and friendly.  She answered all my questions as this was my first time ordering from the Piko food truck.  My only complaint is that I didn't order two bowls because the taste was amazing.

If you see the Piko food truck around I encourage you to order yourself a meal you won't be disappointed.

Below are pictures of my food and the truck on the day I ordered.

You can find Piko online at pikostreet.com and on twitter & Instagram using @PikoTruck

That Time Dave Chappelle Yondr Me At Thalia Hall

4:03 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I was lucky enough to score a ticket to Dave Chappelle 15 show run in Chicago.  All 12* performances sold out in an hour.  This just shows how much people miss what Dave Chappelle offers to the entertainment space.  I went to his first show Friday.  The doors open at 5:30pm and because the shows were what I thought were standing only shows I got there right at 5:30pm.  There was already a line around the corner and down the block.  I was lucky I had a nip* for a blogger event I had gone to.  I was thinking my short ass ain't gonna be able to see shit.  Feeling defended I waited my turn to be ticketed and Yondred.

Yondr is a phone-sock startup that Dave Chappelle partners with to stop recordings of his shows.  It's know people sneak video camera into shows and record the artist.  With the advancement of smartphones it's become more difficult for preforming artist to protect their work.  In teaming up with Yondr Dave is hoping to protect his new material from linking on the internet.  I would describe Yonder like putting your phone in a pouch and then having someone putting a clothing store security lock on it.  I was able to keep my Yondred phone.

The show turn out to be non assigned seat show.  When the seats on the ground level where filled people where then directed to the upper level.  I was lucky because I came solo I was able to get a single seat on the ground floor near the stage.  Without my phone I chatted with the sisters that were seated next to me.  I will admit I kept touching my locked up phone.  This did bring one thing to my attention.  I need to get a watch.  I didn't know the time without my phone.  A man a few seats down had a watch on and the people in my row named him our leader.

While we waited we listened to the sounds of DJ Trauma.  He played a range of old school to current hip hop and R&B.  He did the damn thing.  Dave have two comedians warm the crowd up.  They both were equally funny in their own right.  The opening comedians could change.

Dave Chappelle then came to the stage.  He had me laughing from the second he made his first joke.  My man still got it.  He show was very current.  He touched on topics like interracial marriage,  gay parenting, transgender acceptance to being a dog owner.  The crowd was very mixed.  All races and ages.  We were all joined as one for 2 1/2 hours.  We were all Dave Chappelle fans.

If you get the chance to see Dave Chappelle live please do so.  I have to check this off my bucket list.  I put this right up there with other great performers I've seen like Beyonce, Jay Z, Nas and Lauren Hill.  I forgive you Dave for Yondring me.

Pictures below show how the Yondr looks.

*Dave did a preview show in addition to adding one show after original sale date.

All things Garner Style | My interview with Chastity Garner Valentine

12:22 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I had the good forture of chatting with Chastity of GarnerStyle.blogspot.com.  Chastity is arguable one of the top plus size fashion bloggers.  Before meeting her she was my BFF in my head.  She super sweet and has offered me advise as a blogger that I very much appreciate.  I first meet Chastity in 2014 at a meet and greet she hosted but I followed her blog long before that.

I reach out to Chastity for an interview about all the big things she had coming up.  We ended up talking about everything from rent to Empire.  So much that I don't know what to add or take away.  So I'm going to focus this post on the two big events happening currently.  theCurvyCon and the Rebdoll holiday collection.

We chatted about her second annual plus size celebration event call theCurvycon.  theCurvycon is a now two day event curated by Chastity and her Curvycon partner CeCe Olisa of plussizeprincess.com.  Chastity shared that theCurvycon started as a conversation her a CeCe had.  The idea lit fire after the creator of Full Figure Fashion Week announced that 2014 would be the last year for the plus size fashion event.  FFFWeek didn't end and now plus size fashionistas have more options to when it comes to conference style events.  I talked about these events in a post Plus Size Week in NYC.  2015 theCurvycon included speaks such as Amber Riley and featured bloggers like Gabi of GabiFresh.com.  theCurvycon 2016 ticket currently available are teal and general with platinum already being sold out.  You can use the link here to get more information on theCurycon.

We also spoke about her latest collection.  This is Chastity second time teaming up with the good people at Rebdolls.  The first was a Summer collection that was classic Chastity.  You can see my thoughts on the first GarnerStyle for Rebdolls collection.  In seeing the holiday collection available now I can see Chastity in every piece.  This 13 piece collection ranges from tops and pants to skirts and jackets.

In speaking with Chastity she stated she wanted to push plus size fashion toward higher end of fashion.  I can see that with the Limited  edition "FEATHER FANTASY SKIRT"made of a scuba underskirt and hand sewn rooster feathers.  It's higher on the price point however Chastity was clear in saying "This is what we (plus size women) need."  She went on to say.  Higher end designers are making the clothes we want because of cost and she glad the Rebdolls was willing to step out and create some speciality items.  You can view the full holiday collection here!
