Slaying On A Budget

I first saw Sanaa Lathan in the Diane Von Furstenberg Giraffe Daze Dot printed Catherine dress  from the DVF Seduction collection on Fashion Bomb Daily.   Sanaa Lathan wore it as she attended the VIP sneak peek of the *Go90 Social Entertainment Platform at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California.   Claire Sulmers asked "Would you splurge of the dress?"  For me it was a question I didn't have to answer because the DVF dress isn't available in plus size.  End of story right?!  WRONG!! Thanks to Target & Ava Viv.  




I visited my mom yesterday and we stopped in her local Target.  That's were I snagged this has pocket friendly Ava Viv knit faux wrap dress.  The dress is made from God's gift to a plus girl, jersey material.  This midweight fabric makes this a perfect fall translation piece.  I wore it to the BeHealthful Chicago event.



The fit is great! I felt sexy without feeling as if I was revealing everything.  The dress has a slight high low that makes your legs look great.  It's not super noticeable so it works for a short girl such as myself.  I was lucky to be able to wear it on what is to be the last nice weather day here in Chicago for awhile.  As it get's cold I can see myself pairing this dotted dress with some tights & knee boots like Sanaa did and being just as comfortable as I was in these strappy heels.

AT THE MOVIES WITH NORDSTROM & ELOQUII

 I'm loving the outfit from last night at the screening of Sicario!  I was given the opportunity to gave free movies passes for Sicario.  With the great response I will now be given out screen passes to many of latest movies.  The next movie you can see with me is The Martian.  You can use this link to get a pass to see The Martian.  

 Yesterday was one of the rare perfect weather days in Chicago.  I got a chance to wear an outfit I've had in the waiting for awhile.  When I tell you that you couldn't tell me nothing I mean it.  I was really feeling myself {in my Beyoncé voice}.  I was so happy to rocked this hot look while kicking with people who had a chance to see the Sicario movie for free because of me!

 The Sicario review will be up on the blog tomorrow but first let's get into this outfit.  I purchased Eloquii's Faux Leather Culottes from Nordstrom  during their anniversary sale.  I know they would be perfect for a night out after Made In America.  The sleek looking pant brings an air of sophistication to culottes of past.  They are cut from faux leather and are a great transitions piece from cool end of summer nights to fall's slight chill.  The silvertone zippers  are a classic detail added to the front pockets while offer a dash of edge to the functioning pockets.  Sold in the Encore section in Nordstrom stores they can also be purchased online at Nordstrom.com.  The slim silhouette through the hip with a looser, flared fit throughout the leg made them a winner for me.  The Pull-on style; elastic waist was very forgiving and I'm wearing a size 16.  The waistband is very comfortable and easy movement.  The microsueded interior for a soft feel on the skin.  55% micro suede and 45% polyurethane Eloquii suggests you dry clean when the need to clean arises.  I'm very happy with my purchase.

I topped it off with a crop top from H&M.  For my makeup look I went with Mac's bold red matte lippie Ruby Woo framed with Cherry liner and Nars' Highlighting blush powder Albatross for an illuminating light-reflecting luminous gold glow.  Shoes are last season from Target.  The black bag I've had since forever from Forever along with a duster from H&M.  I hope you liked how I blended the old with the new to complete this look street chic look.

Girls Night Salsa | Peach Salsa With Chipotle Peppers In Adobo Sauce

My friend had a girl's night at her house this past weekend.  Everyone came with a dish.  I love to cook for my friends.  I like to see people's face when they are eating my food.  Also when you cook I feel someone else should clean.  Cooking for yourself you're stuck cleaning the dishes.  Who wants that?! Not me, lol.  This simple dish was the best of both worlds.  I was able to prepare a meal and show my love for food.  Plus this one bowl dish was very easy clean up.  

 I know many people love to cook from scratch and I applaud them.  I'm a city girl on a budget and using food from a can offers a fast and affordable way to cook.  Any of the canned ingredients can be substituted for fresh items.  

 1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes.  (I used the store brand with basil, garlic and oregano)  

 1 14.5 oz can sliced stewed tomatoes ( I usd the store brand with onions, celery and bell pepper) 

 1 1/2 cup of canned sliced peaches.  ( chopped | I used the store brand)  

 1 7.5 oz  can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce ( I used San Marcos brand)

 1/2 of a large red onion (chopped) 

 1/4 of cilantro brush (finely chopped) 

 I didn't add any additional seasons because the the tomatoes came in varies seasons. 
   
Mix all context into a large bowl.  Stirring with a large spoon.  Stir gently as to not mash the ingredients. 

 You can add lime if desired.  I didn't want overstep the smokiness from the chipotle peppers in adobo sauce which was the star of my salsa.  

 This salsa can be served alone with chips or used a topper for tacos.  Another guest at girl's night made rice with ground beef and many added the salsa to that.  I hope you enjoy this budget friendly spicy dish.  It's #fatgirlapproved!

Grits and Biscuits | Chicago

Grits and Biscuits is a Southern dance party that hits the road and brings the party to you.  This dirty South set powered by E.Z.Mo Breezy and Dj Square Biz on the one's and two's was honestly one of the best parties I've ever been to!  Grits and Biscuits made it's latest stop in Chicago this past weekend.  Originally one date 09/11 was set for the Chicago stop at the House of Blues.  This never ending traveling party sold out within the hour like many of the Grits and Biscuts parties.  They added a second date for the following day.  I was able to snatch up a ticket for the second date.  I'm very glad I was able to attend.  
I was made aware of the traveling parties though twitter.  A few months ago the good people of Grits and Biscuits came to Chicago and I was told I just had to go.  I was told the tickets went of sale at noon.  I wasn't thinking the tickets would sale out quicker than Beyonce tickets so I wasn't ready at noon.  Around 5p.m. that same day I went to buy the tickets for myself and a few friends.  The tickets were unavailable.  I was thinking that it was the system down I called the House of Blues directly and with a sad voice the ticket agent told me the tickets had sold out.  I then took to Twitter where I read tweet after tweet of people who had tried getting tickets and were slow in acting like I was.  So when I heard they were coming back on 9/11 I still didn't get the tickets but when they added another date it was my mission to go.  I waited on the tickets to go on sale like guys wait in line for new Jordans.   
Grits and Biscuits was everything I needed in a Southern dance party.  Founded in 2010 by E.Z.Mo Breezy, Grits & Biscuits is a premiere entertainment concept that celebrates the southern experience through urban music, cultural connections and nightlife moves in a down home environment.  
The night I went Dj Square Biz was whipping up the hits.  He was so turnt up I couldn't help but dance.  I believe he's the first DJ I've ever seen dance start to finish though his own set.  I was asked to come on stage with a few other girls and guys.  This was amazing.  I was able to see him first hand put in work.  I can see and I can feel that he has a true love of music. E.Z.Mo Breezy is the perfect M.C.  He had the whole crowd engaged.  He acknowledged returning party goers and welcome newcomers such as myself.  He gave a moment to allow frats & HBUs to have their shine.  He made it clear he wasn't going to stop the music and he didn't.  Music played nonstop from the time I walked in until I walked out.  I found it funny to be handed a fan when I entered the party but after hearing all my favorite hits from past and present I quickly got an understanding.  E.Z.Mo Breezy even joked at the girls that wore high heels because this was a true dance party and no one was going to be standing around.

e.l.f. cosmetics | Getting Ready #PlayBeautifully

I'm very impressed with the e.l.f. products I used today.  I'm familiar with e.l.f. cosmetics because I've used their items for years.  I like that they have affordable items that are of good quality.  On a prior post " The Princess and the e.l.f."   I talked about my best friend Dana moving away and some of my favorite e.l.f. items that I gave her as part of a birthday gift.  I was happy because my package include all products I had never used before.  My review included a first impression on all the items.
