Redeye's TBOX event

11:32 AM Unknown 0 Comments

This is a guest post from a follower turned friend Cat.  I gifted her a pair of tickets to Redeye's TBOX event.  TBOX is an annual bar crawl event held in the Wrigleyville area.  It includes Twelve Bars and 50+ Venues.  The theme of TBOX 2014 is TBOX ZOO - The Place for Party Animals!  They asked party goers to dress for Christmas or as their favorite zoo animal.  The event was held this year Saturday, December 13th for 8am to 8pm.  Below is her experience of the event.

Equipped with a drawstring backpack, bright green fingerless gloves, a painted face and reindeer ears I headed to TBOX.  I know the festivities started at 8am however my sister and I arrived at noon.  I didn't expect so many people to already be so intoxicated.  Especially since the price of admission did not include free drinks.  It only gave you  "discounted" drinks, including $5 Bud light cans $5 Fireball shots and $3 limaritas. Mi sister and I quickly coming to the realization that we weren't drunk enough to appreciate the festivities.  We searched for the bars with the shortest line, although TBOX has all Wrigley bars exclusively open to TBOX ticket holders the lines were very long.  Especially at the more popular bars like Cubby Bear, Moe's catina, and John Barelycorn.   Many of the ATM's were out of cash and the local 7-11 doesn't give cash back with purchases so if I go again I know to bring cash with me. We ended up at bars further south of Wrigley toward Boystown. After a couple drinks we could really stated to appreciate the atmosphere.   People really committed to costumes.   You could see many people in animals onesies everywhere and Santas of all shapes & sizes. Each bar you entered had a different TBOX sticker.  The more bars a person visited the more stickers they adorn on their already whacky costume. Overall I had a good time people watching.

VILLA X Timberland "Sweet Potato" boot

11:38 AM Unknown 0 Comments

VILLA & Timberland presented the "Sweet Potato" boot launch event at The Shrine in Chicago.  The event happened last night in which offered a sneak preview of their exclusive boot.  There was a special performance by the young OG Mr. F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S himself.  He came out hitting the crowd with his latest music.  Fabolous did stopped the music to show respect to Mike Brown in wake of the jury deciding not to indict the officer that killed him.  I have uploaded the video of Fabolous speaking on Mike Brown to my Facebook.com like page ( www.facebook.com/thefatgirloffashion or my YouTube channel www.youtube.com/thefatgirloffashion ).  He then rocked the mic doing a few of his hits.  It was a great performance.  DJ Word & DJ Jay Jilla were on the ones and twos.  The "Sweet Potato" boot was the ultimate star of the event.

VILLA & Timberland showed that when you think of Thanksgiving wants you to think turkey, dressing and sweet potatoes.  Well their classic 6" "Sweet Potato" boots that is.  "Sweet Potato" is this year's mash up of VILLA and Timberland.  Timberland has not shied away from collaborating with other brands on their popular 6-inch boot and Philadelphia-based retailer VILLA wants to recreate the success they had with "Ruby Reds."  So it's no surprise the pair is repeating  the Thanksgiving theme.

The VILLA Timberland "Sweet Potato" box will come served in a special edition orange box and will run you $180. The delicious reddish auburn color classic contractor boots are available as of today just in time for the start of Christmas shopping season .  They are being sold exclusively at select VILLA locations and at  ruvilla.com

Fashion Fair's FFCReveal at Macy's event

1:52 PM Unknown 0 Comments

1973 Fashion Fair was marketed itself to high-line department stores and opened it's first counter in Chicago at the Marshall Fields (now Macys) on state street.

"Almost 40 years after the first counter opened, Fashion Fair Cosmetics continues to pursue it’s vision to become the preeminent global company that women of color trust to help them look and feel beautiful." _ Fashion Fair

Friday Fashion Fair and  Macys on State street offered it's shoppers a new counter.  I must say it's beautiful.  The big reveal reintroduced this self proclaimed make-up junkie to a brand I haven't used in a long while.  FFCreveal was a wonderful event.  Fashion Fair held Master classes with Katrese Kirk-Watson, Fashion Fair's National Training manager, Fashion Fair's global creative director T
ia Dantzler and world famous beauty blogger Afrobella .  Shoppers were treated to make up application services from Fashion Fair muas.  The party then moved upstairs to the 7th floor where we were treated lite bites and drinks.  The FFCreveal party was hosted by Loni Swain of WGCI.  The party included music spin by DJ K Yung , words about Fashion Fair then and now, a champagne toast to the new counter, product testing and two wonderful giveaways.

We most not forget Eunice Johnson the creator of Fashion Fair; started the line as away to offer cosmetics to women of color when the brands at the time didn't.  Her dream of having women of color at the forefront of people minds when thinking of foundation, shadows and lipsticks has been answered by many of those same brands.  Her line is still here for us.  Her line is alive and well.  Fashion Fair had reinvented themselves with new packaging.  New products and now a new counter.  However, one thing has remained true.  Fashion Fashion offers women of color quality cosmetic products at affordable prices.

If you're in Chicago I encourage you to stop by the new Fashion Fair counter and get you face beat by their lovely MAUs that are ready to server you.  Fashion Fair can always be purchased online at www.fashionfair.com

Shervan's Salon presents "Hallway2201"

10:58 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I was lucky enough to get up close and personal with the people of Shevan's Salon as the put on their first fashion show "Hallway 2201."  The show's creative director was Shervan the owner and head stylist of Shervan.  Shervan Salon is a trendy and progressive salon located at 2201 South Halsted in Chicago.  As a client of the salon I know this was not going to be your regular old fashion show.  Oh course they didn't disappoint.  In speaking with Shervan he wanted to showcase the salon's talents in overall beauty with hair and makeup being the highlight of the show.  Well mission accomplished.  With polished updos,  colored clip ons,  sassy cuts and faces beat to the gawds I was served my hair & make up life.  They covered everything down to the tippy toes polished by Spifster.

The fashions by no means were "She by Sheree."  These designers brung it!  First up were looks by Fredrick Conway Jr. of Fredricouture.  He offered flowing and colors grown fit for a queen.  Next were designs by Yana Aminah .  She played homage to the 80's with shimmering leggings and form fitting tops & dresses.  Lastly were pieces from vintage and ready to wear appeal store Levelz Style Lounge.  Their looks were simply gorgeous.

"It worked!" in my Shevan voice... lol

Creme of Nature "Hair Color Crush" event

4:53 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Last night I attended the Creme of Nature "Hair Color Crush" event held at Chez in downtown Chicago.  It was a wonderful affair.  Creme of Nature is bringing awareness to their new exotic shine hair color with argan oil from morocco and it's use on natural hair.  The dye comes in 10 lovely colors.

The Chicago event was the kick off party.  In attendance was Creme of Nature's marketing director Teneya Gholston.  Brand ambassador Africa Miranda who hosted the event.  Nicole Marie Cato of Melton Digital.  As well as 5 of the top natural hair bloggers P Roy along with Chicago's own Ms Vaughn & Rachel O, Shaneice and CharyJay.

I spent the entire night mixing it up with other naturals.  Creme of Nature showed they knows how to treat a girl right.  They had a lovely food arrangement along with 2 signature cocktails called "Intensive Red Rebel & Ginger Blonde Lady."  Which were both simply fabulous.  The blogger panel answered questions from the crowd.  There were prizes for games played and of course giveaways.  I learned a lot while having a great time.  Thank you Creme of Nature.

You can use the hashtag #shineincolor on social media to see all the action from the event.
