Goddess dress OOTD

4:43 AM Unknown 3 Comments

When you know you know.  I knew this dress was it.  It called me from across the room.  We shouldn't have never met.  I mean we're from two different worlds.  I'm plus size and she straight size.  YES!!! Straight size.  This lovely grown is a size 12.  That's not a typo, lol.  It's from H&M.  I've looked and it's not available online, sorry.  It may still be in your local H&M store.  This dress was purchased this week.

To all my plus size readers don't be scared to look in straight sizes.  There are beautiful gems hidden within Missy or Juniors for us.  The fitting room is our friend.  That's where I fall in love with this grown.  Don't be fearful of taking fashion risk.  The dress as you see it is on backwards.  The back is suppose too be out and not the front.  However, that's how I mistakingly tried it on.  With all the love I received while wearing it none was the wiser.

Come to The Fat Girl of Fashion Facebook like page and see how I got this dress for under $40.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Fat-Girl-of-Fashion/56835367989883

Halloween Options For Plus Size

4:09 PM Unknown 0 Comments

This time of year always makes me happy.  I'm a big kid at heart and Halloween bring out the kid in everyone.  With any social holiday the first question we ask ourselves is "What am I going too wear?!"  Being plus size this isn't an easy question too answer.  You want too be creative & original or sexy & sultry.  So again what do I wear?  This year we have options!!! Retails like WalMart, Target and KMart offer some fun choices.  A regular place I would go to looking for costumes is Torrid however this year they have opted too only have Halloween costumes sold via their website.  I don't know about you but I like too trying things on for feel and fit.  So Torrid wasn't really a choice for me this year.  I decided too try Lover's Lane.  I had gone there in the past for a Halloween costume.  So I reintroduced myself too them.  I went to the Lover's Lane in North Aurora,IL.

I didn't tell them I was a blogger or ask for any special treatment.  So I can honestly say the staff was friendly and knowledgable. They were also trying to make sales!  Offering suggestions and willing too order costumes not in the store to the store at no cost to me.  That I really like!  So if you're still on the hurt for a costume Lover's Lane is worth looking into.  The prices ran from $40-$100 depending on the style choosen.  Below are a few pictures of some of the costumes I tried on while there.  ( Had to sneak they don't let you take pictures)

I suggest looking on the website too see first if there is anything you like and then calling your local store too see if they have the one you're looking for. Like with many retailers the plus size section goes quick and with Halloween fast approaching I wouldn't want you going and being disappointed.

Lover's Lane website is http://www.loverslanestore.com

Happy shopping and tag me in your costume pictures for reposting!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

6:42 AM Unknown 0 Comments

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go and need your help!

If you're too young for a mammogram yourself then take this time too ask your older love ones have they gotten their breast check.  Ask your mother, aunts, sisters, cousins and nieces.  This could save your life because you can then find out if you have a family history.

There are a lot of risk factors that cause breast cancer.  Family history, having larger breast,  having a poor diet,  lack of excise,  being over weight and smoking just to name a few.
Women old age 40 and older or with a family history can get a preventive mammogram at no cost sharing too the member.  Check with your insurance too see if you have that coverage.  There are many groups that offer free mammograms too those without health insurance you'll have to check with your local clinics like Planned Parenthood or local government supported clinic.

I've listed the links below so you can get more information on breast cancer.

I hope this pushes one person too get checked!

Going Natural

5:16 PM Unknown 2 Comments

Natural hair is hair that is unadorned and uncolored, virgin non-chemically relaxed or otherwise in its natural state.

Popular natural hairstyles include: twists sets, twist-outs, bantu knots, braid-outs, box braids, and Marley/ havana twists, wash and go, and yarn braids.

The term "Going natural" means taking hair that was once chemically treated and returning back to the natural state.  This has become extremely popular within the African American community within the past few years; women who choose to go natural either do a big chop, where they cut off the processed parts of their hair, or grow their processed hair out.

The big chop is the easiest and often the route chosen.  However if you're like me and attached to your hair the big chop is not the route to take.  I personally haven't permed (perm is when the hair is chemically straighten often called relaxed) for almost 4 to 5 months.

My hair was cut very short and was permed.  I wanted to change hair stylist but didn't want too let someone new cut my hair.  So I started wearing long weaves.  I do have damaged parts to my hair that could not be addressed if I continue too wear glued in weave.  So I'm going too go natural so I can get my hair to a healthier state.  I'm going too wear wigs until the damaged parts of my hair is repaired.  Once my hair is repaired I'm going too wear my own natural hair.  Follow me on my process.
