Hey Pearl, The Wolverine Boot

7:47 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Most girls when dreaming of pearls they dream of the ones that can be strung around the neck.  I on the other hand dream of a classic leather boot by Wolverine.  This past summer I attended a fabulous boot preview party with the good people of Wolverine Shoe and tanning Corporation at the Godfrey Hotel Chicago.  This is where I met Pearl (shown above).  It was love at first sight.  Pearl looks good but more importantly the Pearl boot is excellently made.

The Pearl boot is an elegant ankle boot handcrafted by skilled shoemakers using the finest leather and rich suede. It comes with a stacked heel (rubber outsole).  The Pearl boot blends premium full grain leather and soft suede on the upper. The boot comes with an inside zip for easy entry and a textile lining.

I found the Pearl boot to be very stylish with the buckle on design.  The boot also runs true to size.  I received my shoe in a US 9M and they fit perfect.  The Lightweight cement construction makes the quality boot easy to wear.  I've had a problems in the pass with boots being very heavy and having the feeling of being weighed down.  I didn't get that in wearing the Pearl boots.  Pearl comes in two colors, black and brown.  This Wolverine boot is #FatGirlApproved.

Pictured with the Peninsula Boot from the Wolverine | Stormy Kromer collaboration.

I really went crazy over the plaid Peninsula boot and matching cap.  Go to stormykromer.com for information on the "Peninsula" cap.  To find out more about the "Pearl" boot, Wolverine | Stormy Kromer "Peninsula" boot and all their new boot releases by visiting wolverine.com.  You can follow the action from the Godfrey event on social media by using the hashtags #WolverineFNO and  #mywolverines

The Pearl boots was gifted to me by the Wolverine brand however the opinions in this post are all mine.

#NATIONALPURSE

7:36 PM Unknown 0 Comments

It's no secret that I love handbags.  Being a plus girl my whole life accessories often are the only thing that fit.  I've become purse addicted sometimes perhaps a little too much, lol.  I wanted to share my love for purse with some purse facts and some purse that are on my current wish list.

There is a huge purse and handbag museums located in Amsterdam called  Tassenmuseum Hendrikje.  It's on my bucket list of places to visit.

The most expensive bag to sell at auction hit the chopping block at Christie's last week, going for $221,844 at an auction in Hong Kong. It was a pink crocodile Hermès Birkin studded with diamonds

Purses were made of soft fabric or leather, and were worn by men as often as ladies; the Scottish sporran is a survival of this custom. In the 17th century, young girls were taught embroidery as a necessary skill for marriage; this also helped them make very beautiful handbags.

Louis Vuitton Malletier, commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton, or shortened to LV, is a French fashion house founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton. This brand is the most requested bag in the world.

National Handbag day observed once a year on October 10th national but for me a purse junkie it recognized daily!!!

BlogHer Food '15

4:25 PM Unknown 0 Comments

In reading "5 Reasons #BlogHerFood15 Is a Food Blogger's Recipe for Success" on BlogHer.com I got to thinking the same applies to lifestyle blogger.  I've know I was attending BlogHerFood '15 since it was announced.  People have questioned why would a lifestyle blogger attend a food conference.  My response is why not?  End of blog post.  Thank you for reading and have a great rest of your day, lol.  If only writing a post was that easy.  Seriously!!  If only.

My blog, thefatgirloffashion started of as a plus size fashion blog.  With reader engagement I'm often asked where I am when I would post what I was wearing.  I post pictures of food I've creates.  Like for girl nights I would be create something tasty.  (You can get the recipe to me latest dish here Peach Salsa With Chipotle Peppers In Adobo Sauce .)  Or I was out at a restaurant trying to get all my friends to order different things so I can taste everything.  Check out some of my restaurant reviews.  With the added interest expanded to lifestyle blog.  Food is one of the main reason I increased the range of topics I cover on thefatgirloffashion blog.

When people hear thefatgirloffashion I know they instantly think it’s a fashion blog.  Fashion is a huge part of the blog however that’s not the only topic my readers come for.  It’s often said “Lifestyle” blogger don’t have a niche and are random.  I don't take offense.  Such as life my focus daily is on many things.  So when I’m asked what my blog is about I say food, fashion and fun.

Not surprisingly food is first.  Food plays a big part in my life.  Of course it’s a life force.  We all eat to live.  Food helps me to keep my beautiful round figure {inserts iPhone smiling emoticon}.  Food is how my family celebrates many important events.  It’s can be a meal cooked at home or a dinner out.  I recently visited New York  for Blogher ’15.  I made it a point to take her to Juniors as part of the NYC experience.  I also took her to a local diner for breakfast.  We also ate from a food truck and got a plate.  This was my moms first time in NYC and of all the places I took her, people she met, and things we saw.  Most of her memories go back to the food we ate.  I say this to say food is a huge part of our lives and the experiences we've had and thus why a lifestyle blog should attend a food conference.

Blogher Food ’15 will be held this year in Chicago.  As a Chicago based blogger this alone is a great reason for me to attend Blogher Food.  Having attending BlogHer '14 and BlogHer '15 I know I'll be able to connect with brands.  I love creating recipes and what better way to let food brands know that as a lifestyle creative and influencer I'm a great way to get their products in front of people.  I also use  the Blogher conference a large meet and greet.  I'll get a chance to connect with a lot of my favorite foodies who've I chatted via social media.  You can find me on Instagram and Twitter being I'm very social.  I love to engage with the food community, As a master taster I know foodie love to talk about their favorite restaurants and food tips.  Partnering with SheKnows media Blogher Food '15 like the regular Blogher will be classes to improve your blog and social media approach.  This is great for any blogger trying to work in the food space.

With Blogher Food '15  happening in less than 30 days I'm getting conference fever.  I love the feeling that comes with meeting new people and learning know things.  If you see around the conference center or at any parties please feel to stop me, say hi and of course we can take that all important selfie.  I can tell you all the good shopping spots to hit while you're in town.  You can always reach out to me soon on social media.  I'm on Instagram Twitter and Facebook.  You can always email me at thefatgirloffashion@gmail.com.  Lastly for those who just can't attend you can follow all the action on Periscope and SnapChat under username @FatGirl_Fashion because I'll be covering all the action.   Hope to see or hear from you soon.

20's Flapper & Rosa Regale | COSTUME AND COCKTAILS

4:56 PM Unknown 1 Comments

Everyone knows that Halloween is one of my favorite times of the years.  I often get ask about affordable plus size costumes.  I've created Costume and Cocktail as an idea space for women looking budget friendly fits for Halloween.  This year Halloween falls on a weekend.  Which means party time!  The 20's flapper look are a very easy way to look and feel sexy while not showing off all your goodies.  Plus it won't make you break the bank.  This looks can be achieved with any color fringe dress and long pearls.  Then add a long cigarette holder and a feather head piece.  Couple with fishnet stockings and heels to complete the look.

During the roaring 20's a flapper was a fashionable young woman intent on enjoying herself and flouting conventional standards of behavior.  Flapper were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup.  For this costume it's ok to go heavy on the makeup.  A red, wine or a popping pink color lip is a must.  The bolder the better.  This is a great time to got batty with the lashes.  I recommend the Ardell Double up Lashes 203.  I get mine from Ulta or Target

One of the worlds must famous flapper would be  Josephine Baker.  So feel free to channel her when wearing your costume.  Confidence is a must!  Follow Tyra Banks words and smile with your eyes, Smize

Flapper Women's Costume

I suspect with Halloween falling on a weekend this year many people will be having parties.  So if you're the host or a guest a bottle of Rosa Regale will be a great way to celebrate.  I have included this easy to make cocktail recipe.

The drink is called Mirosa.  You'll need 3 oz chilled Rosa Regale, 1.5 oz DeKuyper Triple Sec, splash of cranberry juice per glass.

Give Pink with FTD Luxury Collection | Breast Cancer Awareness

6:48 AM Unknown 0 Comments

October is breast cancer awareness month.  The ladies at my job asked me to join them in wearing pink every Friday in honor on Breast Cancer Awareness.  I got to thinking about preventive care for breast health.  It's not something that women talk about regularly.  Women tend to be the caregivers focused on their children, spouses and parents on top of working.  That leaves little time to think about yourselves.  I'm offering a little info on breast health as a refresher.  I've also including some lovely FTD flowers ideas as a way to encourage other women to focus on breast health.

Women under 40 can do self exam and when you go for your yearly pap have your gynecologist do a clinical breast exam.

Women age 40 and older should have a mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health.  A mammogram is an x-ray exam of the breast that is used to detect and evaluate breast changes.

With my focus on breast health I got to thinking about my mom.  My mom is a young 55.  She's a true caregiver.  She's has had children her entire adult life.  Now a proud grandmother,  she spends almost every weekend with my nephew.  I asked her when was the last time she had a mammogram?  Her response was "Why you always bring stuff up?"  I know I was bringing up an uncomfortable subject.  I told her that women of color have lower rate of survial of breast cancer because we don't follow up.  I started thinking of ways to take the fear out of getting a mammogram.

We all know the Pink ribbons are the symbol for breast cancer.  But how could I take the pink ribbon up a notch to let my mom know how important her getting a mammogram was to me.  I then rememberd about the new FTD line I had seen at a blogger event.  The spectacular design flowers are inspired by natural and more organic elements. FTD designers describes this luxe collection as new, refreshing, striking, and modern.  Expertly arranged you can choose a luxe bouquet shipped fresh from the farm, or an arrangement hand delivered by one of our top florists. Either way, the gift will be extraordinary.  These bouquets are a perfect was to say I'm happy you chose to get a mammogram as a way for early breast cancer detection.  So when my mom returns from her appointment she'll have a lovely bouquet of flowers as a thank you for caring for herself as much as she cares for the rest of her family.
