Deal of the week

10:18 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I purchase tons of items that won't be seen on Instagram or my Facebook page.  For this reason I've decided to start a post called "Deal of the week."  Deal of the week will showcase a great buy I just couldn't pass up.

This weeks deal of the week is my new pair of Badgley Mischka heels called Tarian.  I'm overjoyed with my new shoes.  Tarian is a truly unique shoe with folded leather decoration at the toe. Tarian features cut-out detailing on the leather deco that is sure to be a style statement this season. A thin recessed platform beneath the ball of the foot adds extra support for a graceful walk in these 4 1/4 -inch heels.  I've always wanted an item from the Mark Badgley and James Mischka collection.  They are known for high quality and elegance.  Mischka says "The Badgley Mischka signature style is simple, streamlined and thoroughly elegant." I can't help but agree.

So when I saw the Tarian heel by Badgley Mischka at the Nordstrom Rack I didn't have to think twice about getting them.  They retailed at $245.  I got them however at 80% off.  Yes!!! You read it right 80%.  For $49 dollars these beautiful heels are definitely the deal of the week.

Mad Hatter

6:20 PM Unknown 0 Comments

My go to accessory this fall has been a topper.  I've been completely obsessed with hats this fall.  They've been giving all my looks life.  From a simple tee & jeans to my dress to impress dresses.  Without trying my hats have been the focal point of many of my outfits.  I get people asking me where I gotten them from all the time.  Just like everything else I wear I've gotten them from all over.  This post is to tell you a few pocket friendly places you can grab a brim from.

I got my first hat for Target (men's department) on clearance.  From there my love affair took off.  Another one of my go to places is H & M (men's department).   Both these places tend to have hats year round in basic colors black, dark brown and dark gray.  Forever 21 is a very popular place to get hats from.  They have them in the women's and men's section.  Old Navy is another popular place.  At both place tend to have  them seasonal and they sell out fast.  When they do have them they come in trending colors.  I've seen tan and forest green.  The hat that gets the most attention is the red hat I got from Aldo Shoes.  The eye catching color is liked by all and not surprisingly the most expensive hat I have at $25.  I personally wouldn't spend over $15 for basic colors and not over $25 for a rarely found color like a maroon or a purple.  That's just me I seen basic colors purchased by person for upwards of $90.  Customs hats can be 4 times that.  I'm not that serious of a collector.

If you want to add a twist to your look start with a topper and work your way down.  Hope this helps those of you looking to add a hat to you wardrobe.   Feel free to comment with any questions.

M·A·C Cosmetics' Keepsakes/ M·A·C Studio Brush Kit

3:09 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I was told by my favorite M·A·C girl Gabriela at the Nordstrom on Michigan (Chicago) that they were going to have 3 brush released as part of their holiday collection.  I was immediately interested.  I had wanted to purchase makeup brushes from them before but as a novice makeup person I didn't want to invest the money.  The cost for the use just didn't equal up for me.  So being told I could get a few for a group price I was all in.

The sets are called "Keepsake".  The set I purchased is called Keepsakes/M•A•C Studio Brush Kit.  It included 5 brush and a travel carrying case.  It came with power blush brush called 129SE which similar to the all purpose for blush or face powder 129 power blush brush that retails at $35.00.   Also in the kit is the 190SE foundation brush similar to the 190 foundation brush which is designed to work with any M·A·C foundation, including Studio Fix and Studio Tech to create a smooth, even finish, flawless look.  The 190 brush retails at $34.00.  The third brush in the set is the 224SE tapered Blending Brush.  Like the 224 tapered Blending Brush it's used for eye shadow application retailing for $32.00.  The four brush included is the 213SE fluff brush.  This fluffy brush like the 213 fluff brush is used for the eye shadow to the lid area. This rounded shape brush retails for $24.00.  Lastly in set it the 209SE Eye Liner Brush.  This brush as an extra-fine tipped that can be use with liquid or cream products just like the 209 eye liner brush that retails at $20.00.

The brushes themselves are smaller in size than the regular purchase on their own brushes but not so small that can't be used effectively.  The 5 brushes come packaged inside a limited-edition cream glitter makeup bag with pearl beaded trim and a cameo-encrusted zipper pull. The makeup bag is in the style of the heirloom mix.  I'm not impressed with the makeup bag itself.  It's comes off cheap and doesn't appear that it will be able to stand up to repeated travel.  It's more for decoration if you ask me.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase.  I got 5 M·A·C brushes valued at for $145.00 dollars for $52.50.  I feel like I now have the proper tools to paint my face prefect.

The other two Keepsake kits where the mineralize brush and the extra dimension brush sets.  The mineralize brush kit work perfectly with mineralize products. It includes 187SE duo fibre face brush, 130SE short duo fibre brush, 286SE duo fibre tapered blending brush 287SE duo fibre eye shadow brush and a grey glitter makeup bag with pearl beaded trim and a cameo-encrusted zipper pull.  The extra dimension brush kit would help in creating a look that would be multi-dimensional. It includes 127SE split fibre face brush, 128SE split fibre cheek brush, 234SE split fibre eye blending brush, 235SE split fibre all over eye brush and black glitter makeup bag with pearl beaded trim and a cameo-encrusted zipper pull.

Review of "Wendy" wig by Outre

12:01 PM Unknown 0 Comments

The Wendy Outre quick weave to me is a half wig that can be modulated into being a full wig.  The hair at the front of the cap has nice density and that will allow for this wig to be worn both ways.  The wig needed zero styling out of the packaging on my part other than placing some hair in a position to frame my face.  The packaging says self styled in 60 seconds and I agreed.  Wendy comes in 6 colors.  I have on color 1b.  The wig is labelled as high tex.  I researched the term high tex and it basically futura.  Meaning it's heat resistant and the hair can be curled using heats in upwards to 400 degrees with an electric curling iron.  I'm not going to try to curl the hair personal until the wig is older because I do want to change the curl pattern.  When the wig is a little order I'm going to see it I can make the wig look a little more wavy and I'll post those pictures on my instagram page (@thefatgirloffashion) at that time.

I love it.  It's light and not hot feeling to my head. I can see this wig lastly a few months which is great for a $20 wig.  I purchased my wig in store.  I did look online afterwards and I've seen Wendy for less than what I paid but I didn't add in shipping.  You'll have to check.  I like the quality and the styling. I recommend the purchasing of the Wendy Outre wig if you're looking for a inexpensive long curly wig.

The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things.

7:43 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Image not being afraid to fail.  What would you do?  Well 5 female filmmakers asked themselves just that.  They then drove cross country speaking to women that were one of few or pioneers in their chosen fields.  The film makers dream were realized in the form of a film called The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things.

Funded though Kick Starter these lady and a mini van went from Los Angeles to New York in a month.  Stopping along the way to document the lives other regular women that happen to be leaders in male dominated fields.

They spend a day in the life of many of the women highlighted in the film.  Showcasing how these women had to go the extra mile to make it.  Even the film's creators were forced to push pass their on fears to achieve briefly what these extraordinary women do daily.

I was introduced to the film though a screening presented by Nordstrom Chicago.  I saw the shorter of the two version offered.  It featured a Mathematician who was the funniest person I seen in a long time.  A pilot who has been in her field for over 20 years and feels she's never worked.  A professional athlete who overcame heart failure.  A corporate leader turned chef.  A Chicago architect pushing to been known simple by her work and not her sex or race.  An agent for social change though a foundation called Girls on the Run.  An Admiral in the US Navy who is still breaking though the glass ceiling by achieving the rank of 4 Stars with the film was still in production.  An astronaut and Miss USA 2012.

I also was able to sit in on a Q&A section with the film's creators.  They said the wanted to spark conversations regarding feminism, empowerment and balancing career and family.  The film  to me was great!!!  Many of the women offered words of advise and encouragement.  A few that stuck out to me was "Be bold and naive" "There's room for everyone" Find passion in your life not in your career".
The movie can currently only be seen though screenings.  Many of which are open to the public. Go to indieflix.com/Empowermentproject  for screening locations and dates.  You can find and follow the film of social media using the handle @EmpowermentDocu and hashtags #empowermentproject #Nordstromxindieflix #teptour #nordstromindieflix

Lane Bryant's New control tech collection

3:13 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Lane Bryant posted this picture on Instagram with the caption "New control tech collection designed with secret panels to shape and contour your curves. #FeminineMystique." The plus size community cried out "The model isn't plus size use real size women."

So I ran down to my local Lane Bryant store to try on the new pants/leggings.

They are made of cotton, polyester and spandex.  This pairing made them feel firm on my body which I like.  They come with an elastic waist and a secret control panels that's helps in shaping and contouring for a good look.  The leggings are high waisted which is great for us curvy girls with a larger mid section.  I ended up going down a size after trying on the size 18 I would normally wear.  I would have tried on 14 but the location I went to didn't have any in store.  With that being said there is no way the above model could have put these leggings on without having them taken in in some way.  She is way smaller than me and I want to try on a 14.

Makes me wonder what size DOES she have on?  However at the end on the day we have to make the trip to the stores ourselves ladies.  Mainstream stores a will continue to place smaller size women in their ads because they feel that they look better.  It's nothing to getting up and arms about.  Just make sure you look great when you doing it for the gram (Instagram)!

My go to girl Myleik Teele

11:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Myleik Teele of curlBox is one of my go to girls.  Let me first talk business.  Ms. Teele went from a 9 to 5 as a publicist to the self described Chief Experience Officer of curlBox.  curlBox is an online subscription company that offers full size sample of natural hair products.  She started her company in 2011 and hasn't looked back since.  But that's not only reason she encourages me.  I became acquainted with her though social media.  I stumbled onto her Instagram last year and I've been following her since.  I don't use many natural hair products.  I tried going natural for a short time but I gave into the creamy crack, lol.  However she encouraged me with life she's living.  I go though my sad moments like many others.  Not major depression but the blues.  I look at successful women for a boost.  Myleik is one of my go to girls and here's why.  As a solo world traveler she reminds me it's ok to go at it alone.  You can't wait on other to get to where you want to be.  I like that many of her "ootd" pictures are selfies.  When many put of full photo shoots to post a simple outfit pic she remind me it does take a big production to get your point across.  I enjoy looking at pictures of her office and home.  She has great style without being a label whore.  She reminds me that simple and clean foundation allows you to add many different items to a space without it being overloaded.  I could go on and on but I'll end this by saying when searching for encouragement have some go to people ready.  People that are well rounded.  Myleik Teele thank you for reminding me that it's ok to be me.

You can find Myleik Teele on all social media using @Myleik or using her business handle @curlBOX

CVS quits smoking for good

5:46 PM Unknown 0 Comments

CVS stops selling tobacco, offers quit-smoking programs at of today.  I'm so happy a company is making the choice of their customers health over profits.  They've chosen to stop on the first day on Breast Cancer awareness month.  Now that's a way to think pink.

CVS wants to known as your neighborhood's pharmacy.  Advising their customers that pharmacies should not be in the business of selling tobacco.

CVS stands to lose more than $2 billion a year by stopping tobacco sales.  They are being accused of a running a PR campaign because tobacco is legal.  Whether is a PR move or not they have got me sold. Way to go CVS!
